  • Remove all food from your refrigerator and freezer. Defrost them all and wipe out the interiors to thoroughly clean and dry them. Then, it is a good idea to place some tea bags or a toilet roll in each compartment to absorb any moisture. If necessary, fix the locking device to the motor.

  • Ensure final readings are completed for electricity, gas and water meters.
  • Arrange for an electrician to disconnect any special light or electrical fittings you intend to take with you.
  • When the removals crew arrives, tell them whether or not they can park their vehicles in your driveway for packing, loading or unloading.
  • Show the removals crew around your home and explain any items you have segregated to move yourself or which you intend to leave in the home.
  • Show the removals crew any items you will need first on your arrival, so that they can pack these items last to come off first.
  • Make sure you have all your house keys and car keys in a safe place to ensure that they do not get packed.
  • Make sure that your pets can not get into the truck while it is being loaded (or under the feet of the removals crew while they are carrying the furniture and effects). Pets often get stressed about you moving and try to hide amongst the furniture being loaded.
